There are various tutorials in the manual that mentions editing your .htaccess file.
What is an .htaccess file?
The .htaccess files can be used to enable/disable additional functionality and features that the Apache Web Server software has to offer, such as basic redirects and url rewrites.
For example the Etano default .htaccess file includes a RewriteRule which rewrites profile URL's so they look like this … yoursite.com/username instead of looking like this … yoursite.com/profile.php?uid=1
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c> Options FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)$ profile.php?user=$1 [L] </IfModule>
Where is the Etano .htaccess file located?
The .htaccess file is located in the Etano main root directory where your index.php file is located. The .htaccess file takes effect over the entire directory and all subdirectories within the main root directory. This is the only .htaccess file you need to be concerned with as directories can't have multiple .htaccess files.
